Melinda acknowledged everyone’s moments of weakness before Connie nodded and left. Kristen arrived and asked why Melinda wanted to hire her as the DE’s general counsel. Melinda mentioned that EJ felt guilty about taking the DA job, which Kristen dismissed, stating the De Moras weren’t wired for guilt.
Kristen questioned Melinda’s interest in working for her, considering the past where Kristen had pushed Melinda’s daughter down a flight of stairs, leading to her death. Melinda, devastated by her loss, stated she could overlook personal differences for the job’s sake. Kristen, however, was not as forgiving and expressed her doubts about working with Melinda.
EJ intervened, offering Kristen his shares in the DEA to secure the deal. Despite Kristen’s initial resistance, she agreed to the terms, realizing EJ was serious about not returning to the board. EJ clarified that Kristen would still receive dividends even without voting rights over the shares. Kristen agreed to start Melinda’s contract and the paperwork for the shares. EJ then told Melinda that he had bought her silence forever, which Melinda confirmed when Nicole inquired about it.
Meanwhile, Eric decided to move to Paris, finding it too difficult to live in the same town as Jude. Nicole understood, acknowledging it was a significant but necessary change for Eric. EJ expressed sympathy for Eric’s loss of his wife and child and appreciated Nicole for informing him about Eric’s departure.
At the DEA residence, Kristen handed Melinda her contract, emphasizing that Melinda would answer to her. Kristen questioned EJ’s motives for securing Melinda a job, to which Melinda responded that EJ was acting in his best interest.
During the press conference in the Square, EJ reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the law and ensuring justice. Gabby, exonerated from her wrongful imprisonment, spoke about the support she received from Rafe and Jada and acknowledged Lee Shin, the victim. Nicole asked how EJ helped overturn Gabby’s case, and Gabby explained that EJ admitted his mistakes and let personal animosity cloud his judgment.
Gabby hinted at EJ’s adoration for Nicole as the reason for his actions, suggesting his fear of losing Nicole to Eric Brady motivated him. Nicole, puzzled, questioned Gabby’s claims, but Gabby insisted that EJ’s love for Nicole played a crucial role in her exoneration, highlighting the intertwined personal dynamics in their lives.
