Mali is downcast after being dumped by Rose. Elandra quickly shares the news with Tane. He admits to his friend that he’d been keeping things from her for weeks, but his brother was in trouble and doesn’t know what else he was supposed to do.

Iluka reports to Elandra that he copped an earful from Mackenzie. Mali is not happy to hear that his housemate has evicted his brother. He tells her that if Iluka can’t stay there, then neither will he. Levi tries to convince Mac to make things right, but she stands firm – she didn’t kick him out anyway, only his brother.

Mali is further shattered when Iluka tells him he has decided to go home with Elandra – working together in the board shop was Mali’s dream, not his. When Mac catches up with Mali on the beach, neither wants to fight. She apologises for not being more understanding, and he for not being honest. She promises that her home is his home.

Meanwhile, John remains opposed to Tane’s youth programme proposal, insisting that he doesn’t want the surf club overrun by juvenile delinquents. Alf is on Tane’s side as he has always run a tight ship, but John counters that he was nearly jailed for kidnapping. When he overhears Tane counselling a troubled Mali, though, he softens and reports to Alf that Tane is ready to step up.

Unfortunately, it could be too late for the change of heart, given the committee have been spooked by an email warning of feral teens wreaking havoc on their club. Can John convince the committee members that he was wrong to put them off the proposal?

Alf sits down later with an action plan for Tane, but they need to get Harper on board. Tane is wary, as he only just agreed to give Harper space from their friendship. What will this mean for his proposal?
