Josh, a newcomer to the village since May, has been a bad influence on his friend Samson Dingle. The two teamed up to threaten Matty during an attempted robbery at The Hide, which quickly spiraled out of control. In the chaos, Josh ended up pushing Samson, causing him to be accidentally stabbed by a knife Matty was holding. Both Josh and Samson have since lied, claiming that Matty deliberately caused the injury in a vicious attack. As a result, Matty is now behind bars, facing serious charges.

The episode began with Josh confessing his feelings for Sarah and asking her out for a drink. As they sat down for a beer at The Woolpack, Sarah praised Josh for his bravery in showing his face at the pub after the recent events. Josh nonchalantly responded, “Why wouldn’t I? Samson still works here, doesn’t he? So that shows the family knows who’s telling the truth about what really happened, doesn’t it?”

Josh then revealed that he and Samson are planning to move up the date of their trip to Europe. Sarah was taken aback by the timing of their plans, especially with Matty’s trial approaching. Josh dismissed her concerns, saying, “I’m not going to let something like that stop me from making plans, am I?” Sarah retorted, “You can’t just clear off abroad till God knows when when you said you’d be a witness.” Josh, unfazed, replied, “I’m a free man; I can do what I like,” and expressed his desire to spend time with her before leaving for Europe.

Their conversation quickly turned heated, prompting Mac to intervene and separate them. Later, Mac expressed his disapproval of Sarah spending time with the troublesome newcomer and speculated to Charity that Josh and Samson are trying to leave the village because they have something to hide. “Why are they moving their trip forward? It’s because of the trial,” he said. “They’re obviously guilty and trying to swerve it.”
